Where did Uncle Kracker Go?! [Part 1]

It had been a long week, so when somebody brought up the Waterfront Festival and promised some awesome bands, too, Stephanie & Jodi (roommates), Becky and I jumped at the opportunity.

It starts out with a 15 minute walk across the Potomac. Then a 1 1/2 hour Metro ride to Alexandria, Virginia.

After a fairly muggy trek, we showed up at the RED CROSS WATERFRONT FESTIVAL. Price -- $10. Didn't see that one coming. Price for hot dogs -- $7. Didn't see that one coming, either.

But we did find some fun rocks to sit on and some sticky mud to sink in
and Papa Berenstein Bear to hang out with.

But the reason we came was to hear the music. Rumor was that Uncle Kracker was going to be at the festival. Sure, he's 7 years out of that one-hit wonder he had circa 1999. Sure, that "Follow Me" song was overplayed and lyrically inferior. But are those reasons to skip a concert?

I think not.

Unfortunately, we arrived at the festival at 3. We realized when we got there that "Local Talent" would be playing until the headliners showed up at 9. Let's just say that "local" and "talent" should never be used in the same sentence together.

To increase the tragedy, we opened up the day's program only to find Uncle Kracker was in fact not scheduled today. He would be here tomorrow.

Oh the AGONY!

In a near-destitute state, we escaped the less-than-mellifluous sounds of the Miller Lite Stage and headed to historic downtown Alexandria, where we encountered, among other things, a pink parrot, pictured below.

We joined our guy friends for some seafood dinner and headed back, still a bit dejected, to see the real band...
