Observations on the heat, which gradually deteriorates into a tangential rambling on my Sunday afternoon.

<-- So this is how weather.com explained Manteca's temperature for the past two days. Personally, I would choose something a little more dramatic when we set all-time records by seven degrees. Like an egg being poached on the sidewalk, or perhaps an iron forge, or maybe a small imp skewering the city and waving it menacingly over the Lake of Fire. Yesterday it was 112, as it was today. The heat index (a combination of the relative humidity and the actual temperature; basically, what you feel on your skin) was 115.

Now I'm not in Saudi Arabia here, so it's getting to be a bit ridiculous. But I must say, I really enjoy these torturously hot temperatures more than the windy, wet winters here, and I am certain that it's better than suffering amid snow and sub-zero temps that much of America endures.

In fact, the unbearably hot temperatures gave me the perfect chance to spend a totally relaxing Sunday afternoon in the comfort of an air conditioned living room or two. After church (where, unfortunately, the a/c was taking an unwelcomed hiatus) I spent a good six hours at our Bible Study teacher's home...it started out as a BBQ for our class, but when everyone left halfway through, it was just me, my brother Ryan, and Brian & Lisa, two very cool adults.

So we discussed everything from the church to childbirth to NASCAR. And after it all, I can say I'm thrilled that I know adults that really care about the students they work with. That is so rare these days.

Come evening, it was some time with the fam...watching my mom do an absurd charade of a volcano while we played Cranium, among other things.

And then I had a chance to read the most attractive, engaging newspaper ever, the Stockton Record. I was ogling over how appealing the graphic design was and how well they drew me in with their story placement and choice.

Basically, all this rambling blog boils down to is take a rest. Enjoy Sunday as a time to worship, fellowship, and step back from a job or schoolwork. It feels amazing. It feels right.

Maybe because it is.
