Supernovas

I want an ending fit for silver screens,
A pin up, glittering, golden movie scene
Like a supernova, brilliant and bright
So blinding, blissful, blanching out the night.

But supernovas though they brilliant be,
And though they warm the world up with their heat
Are flashes in the distance as they burn
Then into chilly nothingness they turn

A momentary, transitory tryst
Will sputter from the effort with a hiss
If supernovas leave this planet charred,
I’d rather have the constance of a star

Banish all the trifles of the screen
Lord knows vaudeville’s not what I need
Spare us the inferno’s ghastly spite,
Embrace the lasting luminary’s light.
