Ecclesiastes 3:10-14
I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves.

He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.

I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one's lifetime;

moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor--it is the gift of God.

I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked that men should fear Him.

The first week of this semester has been a bit of a roller coaster for me. First, there are the pre-semester blues -- the anxiety of knowing an onslaught of work and stress are just days away, and the sadness of missing one of my best friends, Melissa, as she spends the next few months in London.

And then, there is the euphoria of meeting new people, having fun with my new roommate, starting a huge and wonderful Chimes project and planning out a killer semester.

This passage was a neat one to read tonight. It reminds me that these little pleasures -- the Chimes online, cool Spanish classes and friends -- are God's little gifts to us. He's hidden himself and created mysteries too lofty for us to fathom. But he's also given us work to give us satisfaction....
