Unfinished Business

Just got back from a session of Biola's SCORR conference (Student Congress on Racial Reconciliation) and I learned something.

The most worthwhile things in life are the ones that are never really accomplished on earth.

The speaker today, and the musicians at last night's worship mosaic, talked about racial reconciliation like we would never see it, never realize it. It's not like the artificial world of academia, in which you can get a degree, a piece of paper, and suddenly, permanently, be considered "educated." There is an entire and visible change of status.

But when it comes to things like reconciliation, you can't arrive. You must try and try and try. The work is laborious, exhausting and neverending. There will be progress and fruit if you don't give up, but you'll never know it all.

I think it also translates to evangelism. You just can't arrive, you can't reach everyone. But that's not the goal -- the goal is to not give up, to keep telling. It's arduous, tedious and endless. Sometimes you will "win some" and other times you'll fall flat on your face.

We will never cease striving until the kingdom comes. I will never win the battle of sin within me until Christ finishes it for me.

But after today, I'm beginning to think that's okay.
