Ode to Film Festivals and Freedom in General

Yesterday was one of those fun days you always wanted out of college. The girls and I went to the Biola Film Festival, and albeit a few technical difficulties that made the wait long and missing the afterparty, it was some great hangout time.

So here it is: 10 reasons why being under parental rule on a night like yesterday might have ruined things a bit.

  1. You'd have to wear something besides your prom dress to dinner in the cafeteria. (No fancy restaurant here -- we ate ice cream, cheeseburgers, and fries in the cafeteria...in our formals. Everyone was confused. But I didn't spill, mom!)
  2. You'd have to be on time. (Due to a little loss-of-key incident, we were about an hour later than we expected)
  3. You'd have to drive safe. (Gail did a great job but when you're used to driving a 12 person van and you haven't even driven that in months, navigating the highway to Hollywood will inevitably yield more than a few near-death experiences).
  4. You'd have to wash the windshield beforehand (as in no window washing in your prom dress)
  5. You'd have to stop at red lights (don't panic. We only ran one.)
  6. You'd have to be watching something more intellectual than "A Shopping Cart Named Desire."
  7. Or for that matter, a film called "Humorous Vacuum Robot."
  8. You'd have to switch the car radio to something more profound than "Don't You Wish Your Girlfriend was Hot Like Me?"
  9. You'd have to be smarter than getting quesadillas in a shady part of town at one in the morning.
  10. You'd have to be in before 2. Waaaaaaay before 2...
