The Chimes goes for the big-time

Thanks to some help from the venerable Nate Mitchell, The Chimes was able to get press passes to the California Republican Party convention and do a slew of coverage on the event.
Personal highlights include shaking the governor's hand (see the photo of me and him?) and reporting on speeches by Mitt Romney, former Gov. Pete Wilson and some other higher-ups.
I was proud of our staff -- they all dressed professionally and took the operation seriously. We got to meet all sorts of reporters and politicians and post coverage online under deadline.
A student newspaper can merely cover campus events, campus gossip, campus crime. Or it can step outside the box and do dress-rehearsals for the real world, as we did in this convention. I'm really grateful we got a chance to report alongside the LA Times, OC Register and Associated Press on stuff that matters outside Biola walls. There's nothing more inspiring.
Thanks for your help, Nate!

A school paper that covers both crepes and Arnold Schwarzenegger. That is indeed inspiring.
